Your first 90 days in Indonesia: the arrival checklist
The visa got you in — this is what turns you into a functioning resident: the registration clock, the ID number everything else depends on, and the money, healthcare, and license steps in the order they actually unlock. Each step links the official source so you can verify the current rule.

The catch that burns new arrivals
Overstay runs Rp1,000,000 per day and past 60 days means deportation and blacklisting; the easy-to-skip SKTT resurfaces at renewals, banking, and marriage registration.
The checklist, in the order it unlocks
ITAS/KITAS issued via the evisa portal + SKTT civil registration at the local Dukcapil office
SKTT commonly within 14 days of ITAS issuance; hosts report foreign guests to immigration on arrival
STM police registration was scrapped for most foreigners in March 2025; the SKTT (which assigns a NIK) comes from Dukcapil, not immigration — separate office, separate queue.
Get your NPWP (Nomor Pokok Wajib Pajak)
Needed for payroll withholding at resident rates, some banking, and vehicle or property transactions.
Issued at the local KPP tax office or online via ereg.pajak.go.id once holding a KITAS or crossing 183-day tax residency.
Open a bank account
Full rupiah accounts commonly need the KITAS (some banks also ask for an NPWP); passport-only accounts exist at a few banks with limits. Wise plus a digital bank (Jago/SeaBank) is the common early stack.
Enrol in healthcare
BPJS Kesehatan is compulsory once working or residing past 6 months (employer-arranged for staff); in practice nomads and retirees carry private or international cover for private hospitals.
Sort your driver's license
An IDP covers visitors; residents (KITAS/KITAP) apply for an Indonesian SIM at a Satpas office — theory and practical tests officially apply, and the SKTT/NIK is commonly requested in the paperwork.
Deadlines and requirements vary by nationality, visa type, and region, and they change — this is information current as of 2026, not legal or immigration advice. Verify each step with the official source before you rely on it.
