Privacy Policy

expatriates.ai ("we," "us") runs this website of free tools and reference information for people moving and living abroad. This policy explains what personal information we collect through the site and how we handle it. For our terms of use, see our Terms of Service.

• Your email address — only if you submit it to get country guides, rule-change alerts, or launch news. We store it together with the page or channel you signed up from.
• Usage events — first-party measurements of which pages and tools are used (e.g. a page view, a tool start, an email submitted), coarse, non-identifying tool measurements (such as which situation you picked, which country you checked, how many programs matched, and which of our own buttons or links you clicked, recorded as a fixed label like “aff-wise” — never the figures you entered), a random per-session id that resets each visit, and any campaign tag in the link you arrived from. These events carry no name, are never linked to a third-party advertising profile, and are not used to build a profile of you; if you ask us to delete your email, we delete your signup event too. If you copy a results share-link, your inputs are encoded in that link — share it only with people you trust.
• Information you enter into a tool — the finder and the tax tools run on what you type (income, funds, heritage, or tax inputs — and, for the streamlined tax tool, your name and the narrative answers you type, which we process only to draft your form and do not store) to generate your results. This is used to produce your on-screen output. It is not sold, not used for advertising, and not shared for marketing, and the analytics described under Cookies and tracking never receive what you type.
• Hosting-level page statistics — our hosting provider (Vercel) measures page views for us in aggregate (top pages, referrers, countries, device types). This runs on our own domain, sets no cookies, and identifies visitors only as a short-lived anonymous hash that cannot follow you across other sites.
• Standard server logs — like most websites, our hosting keeps basic technical logs (e.g. IP address, browser type) for security and reliability.

The tools are free. If you buy the optional Landing Plan, you pay on Stripe's checkout page, not on our site, and the order is sold through Link, Stripe's payment service. You enter your email and payment details there, so we never see or store your full card number.

From Stripe we receive, and keep in our Stripe account:

• your email address, the name and billing country or address you entered, and your business details if you buy as a business;
• what you bought, the amount including any tax, the date, whether the payment went through, and Stripe's reference numbers for the order; and
• the finder answers your plan is built from (your situation; any income, savings or investment figures and any ancestry you entered; whether family is coming; and any region or country you picked). They go with the order so the plan matches what you paid for, and so we can restore its link if you lose it.

Our site itself keeps no account or list of buyers, and our own analytics records a purchase as one more usage event, noting which plan but no name or email. Stripe and Link handle your payment under their own privacy policies: stripe.com/privacy and link.com/privacy.

We use the information above only to:

• send you the guides, alerts, and updates you asked for (you can unsubscribe from any email at any time);
• generate your results in the tools;
• deliver a Landing Plan you buy, and restore its link if you lose it;
• understand which content and tools are useful, so we can improve them; and
• keep the site secure and working.

If you are in the EU/EEA or UK, we rely on your consent to send you marketing emails (you may withdraw it any time), and on our legitimate interests in running a secure, useful site and measuring how it is used (see Cookies and tracking). You can object to the latter at any time.

We never sell your personal data, and we do not share it for anyone else's advertising. We use a small number of service providers (for example, website hosting, email delivery, and the analytics services Google Analytics and GrainQL) that process data only on our instructions under contract. Landing Plan payments go through Stripe and Link, under their own privacy policies (see Payments above). We may disclose information if required by law. That's it.

We use no advertising cookies or pixels. Our own measurement sets no cookies either: it keeps a random per-session id, a random visitor id that stays in your browser until you clear its storage, and any campaign tag from the link you arrived on. Pages also load Google Analytics, which sets its own cookies, and GrainQL, which records page views, scrolling and the text of the buttons and links you click, with anything typed into a form masked. When a page's address holds your answers or a private link (a finder results link, a Landing Plan link or an unsubscribe link), our own measurement and Google Analytics receive it with those parts removed, and GrainQL does not run there.

We keep your email until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. Usage events are kept as individual non-identifying records that we analyze in aggregate, and raw events are deleted after at most 24 months. Information you enter into a tool is processed in memory to generate your result and is not stored by us at all, except the finder answers that go with a Landing Plan order (see Payments above).

Wherever you live, you can ask us to show you the personal data we hold about you, to correct it, or to delete it, and you can unsubscribe from emails at any time. If you are in the EU/EEA or UK, you also have the right to data portability, to restrict or object to processing, to withdraw consent, and to complain to your local data-protection authority. If you are in California, you have the right to know, delete, and opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information (we do neither) and not to be discriminated against for exercising your rights.

We operate from, and process data primarily in, the United States. If you contact us or sign up from outside the US, your information may be transferred to and processed there, with appropriate safeguards where required. Copies may also exist temporarily in encrypted or replicated backups on our own systems, including in other countries; backup copies are overwritten or expire on a fixed schedule, so deletions reach them automatically over time.

The site is for adults and is not directed to children. Please don't use it if you are under 18.
